FAQ's
How does the Cosmelan treatment work?
Cosmelan works in two phases. In the clinic, a specialized mask (Cosmelan 1) is applied and left on the skin for 6–12 hours depending on pigmentation severity. After removal at home, clients begin the second phase: daily use of Cosmelan 2 cream with supporting skincare products for 3–6 months. This dual system reduces existing pigmentation and prevents recurrence.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients only require one in-clinic session, followed by the mandatory at-home protocol. Results continue to improve over 4–8 weeks. In cases of deep or stubborn melasma, a second session may be performed after 6 months. Annual maintenance treatments are sometimes recommended for long-term results.
What is the downtime after Cosmelan?
Mild to moderate downtime is expected. In the first 1–3 days, redness, tightness, and mild swelling may appear. Between days 3–7, peeling and dryness are common. By week 2, the skin starts to brighten and even out. Full recovery usually takes about 1–2 weeks, depending on skin sensitivity.
Who is an ideal candidate for Cosmelan?
Cosmelan is recommended for clients with moderate to severe hyperpigmentation, including melasma, post-acne pigmentation, and sun damage. It is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with active skin conditions like rosacea or eczema, or those currently taking Accutane (who must wait 6 months before treatment).
What results can I expect?
Cosmelan can reduce pigmentation by up to 95%, while also improving skin clarity, tone, and texture. With consistent homecare, it helps regulate melanin production, reduces the risk of recurrence, and leaves the skin more luminous, even, and youthful-looking.
